Ford (NYSE:F) Minivan Recall Expanding As Victims Speak Out

In response to what a growing number of people - including victims and families, of the faulty Ford (NYSE:F) Windstar minivans axle disaster - perceive as a callous response from the American automaker, they are beginning to speak out in larger numbers over the disastrous vehicles produced by Ford, which can and have resulted in the axles breaking.

Victims and safety experts are castigating Ford for their lack of urgency concerning such a serious problem.

In an anemic statement, Ford spokesman Wes Sherwood said, "Ford is committed to safety and notifying customers of recall. We send individualized letters to customers with affected vehicles and go beyond government requirements for recall notifications."

Originally the recall entailed 575,000 Windstars, but that has been expanded to an additional 37,000 minivans, bringing the total to 612,000 in the North American market.

Included in the additional 37,000 vehicles was the state of Utah and all vehicles produced in 2003 in states using salt in the winter.

Complaints began almost exactly 10 years ago, with the first being recorded in December 2000. Starting in 2008, the complaints have skyrocketed over the broken axles, according to the NHTSA database.

Auto safey organizations say the recall is a disaster because Ford has handled it as if it was business problem rather than a major safety issue.

Essentially the alleged recall has never really happened because the vehicles remain on the road because the danger associated with them isn't understood by Windstar minivan owners.
