Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android to be Tested by Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone in 2011

Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android is expected to come under pressure from Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone in 2011 as they expand their distribution to Verizon (NYSE:VZ).

Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster said, "Currently, Android phones outsell iPhones in the U.S., but we believe when Verizon gets the iPhone that trend could be reversed. As an example, in countries where the iPhone is available on multiple carriers and competes with Android, we see the iPhone outselling Android.

"The greatest factor in the success of Android has been Verizon. Customers are loyal to their carrier, and once Verizon gets the iPhone, we believe Android's success in the U.S. will be tested."

Verizon should has an iPhone version available for sale in the first quarter of 2011.

Google closed Tuesday at $587.14, up $8.78, or 1.52 percent. Apple closed at $318.21, down $1.94, or 0.61 percent. Verizon closed at $32.95, up $0.06, or 0.18 percent.
