AT&T (NYSE:T) Could Lose 6.5 Million Sales from Verizon (NYSE:VZ), Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) Deal

Piper Jaffray says they see the possibility of AT&T (NYSE:T) losing up to 6.5 million in sales of Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhones from their deal with Verizon (NYSE:VZ).

Analyst Gene Munster added that Verizon will sell about 9 million iPhones in 2011, while AT&T will drop to 11 million. Without the Verizon iPhone AT&T would have sold about 17.5 million units, according to Piper Jaffray's Munster.

Apple is the winner in all of this (although Verizon will get a nice boost) as iPhone sales are projected to increase by about 2.5 million for the year.

As for smartphones to be activated by Verizon this year, Munster estimates about 25 million will be the total, which would make Apple's contribution about 36 percent overall.

Anticipation is Apple will announce an iPhone for Verizon on Tuesday.

Verizon was trading at $36.00, up $0.07, or 0.19 percent, as of 1:28 PM EST. Apple was at $341.70, up $5.58, or 1.66 percent. AT&T was trading at $28.37, losing $0.48, or 1.66 percent.
