Ford (NYSE:F) Electric Home Chargers to be Installed by Best Buy's (NYSE:BBY) Geek Squad

Ford Motor (NYSE:F) has developed an electric charger which can be installed in the garage of the owner of an electric car, as the prepare to roll out their electric cars in 2011.

Not only does the charger help eliminate the problem of finding a place to charge an electric car, but by enlisting and training the Geek Squad of Best Buy, they eliminate concerns over having the skill to install and service the device.

Ford will start to sell its electric Transit van in April, and will have the chargers available at that time, although they will probably be installed in businesses first, as the vans are being built for commercial use.

The charging station will be offered by Best Buy at about 1,200 stores, although initially Ford's electric vehicles will be offered in 19 major markets. The charger will be also offered by Best Buy online.

With their focus on home appliances, Best Buy already have master electricians available for installation of the electric charger. The Geek Squad will either make home calls to repair the charger or perform a remote diagnostic.
