Intel (Nasdaq:INTC) On Their Atom Business

In their conference call for their quarterly report, Intel (Nasdaq:INTC) commented on the overall condition of the netbook industry, which of course directly affects the Atom business of the company.

The company noted that the industry shipped close to 37 million netbooks in 2010, representing a growth rate pace of 20 percent.

In order to keep the segment growing, along with Atom, Intel said they're going to introduce some new innovations in 2011 to help it to continue growing.

Some of those innovations include the provision of lower price points in emerging markets to generate more sales and increasing the features in the mature markets.

Intel also pointed out that their Atom business was more than netbooks, citing an accelerating embedded business, which 1,700 design wins for the embedded Atom devices.

A lot of the wins in the space include architectural conversions against ARM and MIPs, said Intel.
