Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) Says Windows Phone 7 Issue Related to 3rd-Party App

After researching a data transfer problem related to their Windows Phone 7, Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) said the glitch comes from a 3rd-party app.

The actual problem was the arbitrary transfer of data on a daily basis, which was in some cases in the gigabytes. That would of course increase cell phone bills in a big way, depending on the amount of data transfer.

A Microsoft spokesman said, "We have determined that a third-party solution commonly accessed from Windows Phones is configured in a manner that potentially causes larger than expected data downloads. We are in contact with the third party to assist them in making the necessary fixes, and are also pursuing the potential workarounds to address the configuration issue in case those are needed. At this point in our investigation, we believe this is responsible for most of the reported incidents."

What type of application was believed to be the problem wasn't discussed or revealed, but assumptions at this time are it was related to a e-mail app.

Microsoft said only a small percentage of Windows Phone 7 users were having problems with the app.
