Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) Generates Majority of Mobile Profits

Even though Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) only holds a 4 percent market share of the mobile market, they generate by far the majority of profits in the mobile sector, according to data from Asymco's Horace Dediu.

With only a 4.2 percent mobile phone market share, Apple was able to garner a whopping 51 percent of the profits in the fourth quarter.

Apple revealed in the early part of January that they sold 16.24 million iPhones in the fiscal first quarter of 2011, with an average selling price of $625.

Apple dropped to fifth in the fourth quarter for makers of cell phones, while for smartphone platforms, Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) moved past Nokia (NYSE:NOK) to the No. 1 spot.

Apple closed Monday at $339.32, gaining $3.22, or 0.96 percent.
