Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone Will Take 1 Million Android (NASDAQ:GOOG) Sales from Verizon (NYSE:Vz) says Piper Jaffray

Part of what Verizon (NYSE:VZ) will via selling Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone will be taken away from losses in Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android-powered smartphones.

Piper Jaffray said they believe the iPhone could take away up to 1 million Android sales from Verizon in the first quarter of sales alone.

In a normal quarter Verizon would sell from 4 million to 5 million Android units.

According to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, Verizon should sale about 1.5 million iPhones in the first fiscal quarter.

Munster said he believes Google and Apple will gain smartphone market share in 2012, accounting for about 50 percent of the market, and in 2015 expanding that to 65 percent.

Verizon was trading at $36.63, down $0.05, or 0.14 percent, as of 11:42 AM EST.
