Bank of America (NYSE:BAC) likes Texas Instruments (NYSE:TXN), Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) and Broadcom (NASDAQ:BRCM), placing "Buy" ratings on the trio, while with Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) and AMD (NYSE:AMD) they put a "Neutral" on each of them.
Analyst Vivek Arya noted with Texas Instruments that they're increasing share in analog chips is a positive, as the chips are ubiquitous and move TI away from the costly battle surrounding digital chips, where factory upgrades require huge capital expenditures.
Production for analog chips are also less expensive than digital chips, adding another benefit to the strategy of the company. Arya said, “TI is the leader with 14% share in analog semiconductors – an attractive market with low capital investment requirements, fragmented competition (top 8 players control only 50% of total market), and diverse exposure to all growth end-markets including mobile communications and industrial sectors.”
Concerning Broadcom, Arya noted the company has just about everything right, with strong exposure to major mobile companies and every segment within the sector, including data center, mobile and video/broadband. New product cycles make the company compelling in Arya's view as well.
For Nvidia, they appear poised to change into a top contender for ARM-based chips used in tablets and smartphones.
Broadcom was trading at $46.13, gaining $0.31, or 0.68 percent, as of 2:10 PM EST. NVIDIA was trading at $24.91, down $0.76, or 2.96 percent. Texas Instruments was at $35.51, up $0.07, or 0.20 percent.
