General Electric (GE), Transnet Introduce First AC Diesel-Electric Locomotives

General Electric Co.'s (NYSE:GE) South African transportation entity, GE South African Technologies and Transnet Ltd. Monday introduced the first two of 100 new GE locomotives for South Africa.

The locomotives introduced today (Monday) represent the first units shipped from Erie, Pennsylvania, under GE's contract with Transnet Ltd, announced on December 2009. Under the contract, GE will supply Transnet Freight Rail with 100 GE Model C30ACi locomotives.

Transnet Freight Rail is South Africa's state-owned rail freight logistics utility and a subsidiary of Transnet Ltd.
