Google (Nasdaq:GOOG) has joined competitors Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), Nokia (NYSE:NOK) and Research in Motion (Nasdaq:RIMM) in the app store market, with the unveiling of their soon-to-be released Android Market Web Store.
Consumers will be able to shop and acquire Android Apps at the new Google marketplace.
Google will compete directly with Nokia's Ovi Store, Research in Motion's BlackBerry App World, and Apple's App Store of course.
Consumers will be able to acquire apps from a desktop or laptop computer and download them to their Android device.
Google was trading at $613.08, up $2.04, or 0.33 percent, as of 3:22 PM EST. Apple Inc. was at $344.67, down $0.36, or 0.10 percent. Nokia was trading at $11.39, up $0.53, or 4.93 percent. Research in Motion was at $61.15, up $0.75, or 1.24 percent.
