Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) Delivering Quad-Core Chips in Tablets in August

According to an announcement at the Mobile World Congress show in Barcelona, Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) will be selling the first quad-core chips in tablets in August.

The company added they'll also have the chips in smartphones by the end of the year, ready for the Christmas shopping season. Nvidia didn't identify which companies would be releasing tablets or smartphones with the chips in them.

Nvidia is battling it out with Texas Instruments (NYSE:TXN)and Qualcomm (NASDAQ:QCOM) on who gets to the market first with the chips, and it looks like it'll be Nvidia, assuming they will be able to execute what they assert.

TI and Qualcomm both said they will have quad-core chips in devices beginning in 2012.

The new chip is dubbed Kal-El, which Superman fans will know is his original name.

Nvidia closed Tuesday at $22.55, falling $0.56, or 2.42 percent.
