Magician David Blaine has been hired by Sprint (NYSE:S) for what they say will be an announcement made using the illusionist which will be an "industry first" showing "that the impossible is possible.”
This has created a generous amount of buzz for the company, but also comments on whether or not the announcement from Sprint will be a yawner or significant breakthrough on their part.
The show will be on Monday, several says before the latest earnings report from Sprint. They're either building up a crescendo for surprising earnings or preparing for a blockbuster announcement.
Hopefully that aren't going to be victims of hype that aren't able to back up with a strong narrative.
Sprint spokeswoman Melinda Tiemeyer commented saying, “We are unable to confirm any of the speculation on the announcement.
“We invited a broad group of media from traditional, broadcast, wires, newspapers, long-lead feature magazines as well as bloggers. The majority of folks invited cover wireless, consumer products and electronics in general and not any one type of device operating system.”
So is this a marketing ploy with little substance, built for the purpose it is now enjoying in getting the brand's name out there, or is there a combination where substance and hype meet for a compelling story?
We won't have to wait long, as Monday we'll get a look at what it is Sprint has in mind, and whether or not they've pulled of their own illusion which has successfully captured the attention of the media.
