Workers Claim BP (BP) Misclassified Them as ICs, Seek Damages

Three workers claim they had been misclassified by BP (NYSE:BP) and The Response Group LLC, a business based in Cypress, Texas, as independent contractors, and are seeking damages in a federal lawsuit.

The lawsuit is seeking a notice for others to join the trio if they have similar complaints.

Included in the damages they seek are compensation for overtime and other alleged benefits owed them, along with attorney fees.

According to the plaintiffs, they were part of tens of thousands of workers assigned to clean up the Gulf Coast after the oil rig Deepwater Horizon exploded, releasing oil into the Gulf of Mexico.
