Alt Energy (FSLR) (LDK) (SPWRA) (BWEN) (TSL) Jump on Japan Uncertainties

Shares of solar and wind companies like First Solar (FSLR), Trina Solar (TSL), LDK Solar (LDK), SunPower (SPWRA) and Broadwind Energy Inc. (BWEN) soared on Tuesday as alternative energy gained temporary favor in the market, with little else to get excited about.

Surprisingly, homebuilders were also up some, as expectations of decent sales in spring pushed them up.

Solar was up on the uncertainty surrounding nuclear energy, although there's not any chance much will change there, other than some of the Western governments slowing things down a little to possibly look at better controls.

Trina Solar closed at $28.28, up $2.28, or 8.77 percent. LDK Solar closed at $12.66, gaining $1.08, or 9.33 percent. First Solar ended Tuesday at $158.91, gaining $12.00, or 8.17 percent. SunPower closed up at $16.07, rising $1.57, or 10.83 percent. Broadwind Energy was at $1.38, up $0.13, or 10.40 percent.
