Amazon's (AMZN) Appstore Open for Business

Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) has launched is Amazon Appstore in the midst of some controversy, as it was sued by Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) over the use of the name App Store, saying it could confuse customers.

As for the store itself, Amazon will offer apps for smartphones and tablet computers running Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android operating system. The store offers paid and free apps from software developers of Android.

Aaron Rubenson, who heads up the Appstore's business operations, said the company decided on Android apps because of how quickly its growing.

Amazon also said they believe their experience at helping consumers find what they are looking for online will also help them to help customers find apps easier.

Amazon closed Wednesday at $165.32, gaining $2.72, or 1.67 percent.
