General Motor's (GM) La. Plant to Restart

A week after shutting down its pickup plant in Louisiana, citing a shortage of parts from Japan because of the earthquake, General Motors (NYSE:GM) announced it'll be reopening the plant today.

GM spokeswoman Kim Carpenter said, "We made the decision to restart Shreveport because we need to build trucks for our customers." The facility produces GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado small pickups.

The plant, located in Shreveport, was the first auto plant in the United States to shut down production totally. Most others have lowered production, operated on part-time schedules, or eliminated overtime.

It wasn't clear where from and what parts were replenished so the factory could resume production

General Motors closed Friday at $31.47, gaining $0.08, or 0.25 percent.
