Google’s (GOOG) Outgoing CEO Schmidt Considered for Commerce Secretary

Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) CEO Eric Schmidt is among a short list of candidates being considered for Commerce secretary. Also being taken into consideration is former Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) CEO Jeffrey Kindler.

Another anonymous source said U.S. trade representative Ron Kirk is also being considered for the job.

Jen Psaki, an administration spokeswoman, said about the Commerce post, “The president will consider a range of qualified candidates, but we are at a very early stage in the process and no decisions have been made.”

Stepping down as current Commerce secretary Gary Locke, who will be nominated to be the next U.S. ambassador to China.
