After news Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) had the use of their drug, Prevnar, halted in Japan, and Sanofi-Aventis' (NYSE:SNY), ActHIB, after five children were killed in the country after being vaccinated, a team of Japanese medical experts said they don't believe there was a connection to the vaccines being administered to them.
The assumption is the drugs will probably be cleared to resume use sometime soon in the country.
Two children died in February and three in March so far, after original reports that four children had died.
What's somewhat troubling is how quickly the "medical experts" ruled on this. It's unusual to say the least that in a very short time they could have figured this out and come to a decision in the matter.
Hopefully more deaths won't come about in Japan from the rush to get the drugs back into the market.
Pfizer closed Tuesday at $19.68, up $0.07, or 0.36 percent. Sanofi-Aventis closed in New York at $35.15, down $0.16, or 0.45 percent.
