Wales on Apple (AAPL), Google (GOOG), Nokia (NOK), Microsoft (MSFT)

Wikipedia founder Jimmy wales sat down with Fortune magazine recently and give his take on several tech issues of interest, including Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) dominance in the app market, Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) algorithm change, and the partnering of Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) and Nokia (NYSE:NOK).

As far as the algorithm change made by Google, Wales said it's not having an effect on Wikipedia or Wikia, although he dissed Demand Media (NYSE:DMD) for its lack of quality content; an interesting assertion when Wikipedia in most ways is a joke among those looking for serious material to sources and cite.

Wales said, "I'm actually excited about it. I think it's about time that we have a little bit [of] these really ridiculous sites getting knocked down some." But again, a large number of people consider Wikiepedia as one of those sites that should be knocked down.

As for Apple Wales said he sees them as attempting to be too controlling, it could easily backfire on them.

Concerning the partnership between Nokia and Microsoft, Wales said he's skeptical, although he conceded he has no answer to the question of Robert Scoble, who asked: "Have any of you actually used a Windows Phone 7 mobile [device]? Because it's really awesome and this is a really brilliant move."

Over the long term Wales did say the partnership will probably be one of the more interesting stories in the sector. I agree.

I don't suppose you have any sources to cite in support of your comment:
"But again, a large number of people consider Wikiepedia as one of those sites that should be knocked down".

No. Thought not.
