Harmony Gold (HMY) Reopening Mine after Fatality

After its Joel mine in South Africa had a fatality at it last week, Harmony Gold (NYSE:HMY) had shut it down. The company announced it will reopen it on Wednesday on the first shift.

Spokeswoman Marian van der Walt said, "The Joel operations will commence tomorrow morning."

The Joel mine produced about 64,500 ounces of gold in 2010, falling from the approximate 66,000 the company produced at the mine in 2009, according to Harmony's website.

Harmony Gold was trading in New York at $15.17, gaining $0.37, or 2.50 percent, as of 1:34 PM EDT.
