With PC sales slowing, Intel Corp (NASDAQ:INTC) is targeting the fast-growing tablet market with a new set of chips in hopes of garnering some market share in the segment.
According to Mark Miller, director of outbound marketing for Intel's netbook and tablet group, once battery life in tablets expand, that will lead to focus on computer performance, which "plays much more to Intel's strengths."
The latest chips are named Oak Trail, which while helping Intel by having something decent in the space, the company still faces a major battle against ARM Holdings (NASDAQ:ARMH), which has licensed its technology to fiercely competitive powerhouses like Qualcomm Inc. (NASDAQ:QCOM), Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:NVDA) and Texas Instruments (NYSE:TXN).
Intel closed Monday at $20.12, gaining $0.10, or 0.50 percent.
