ReneSola (SOL) (STP) (PWER) (SPWRA) Close Up on Nuclear Perceptions

Solar companies have been jumping on the perception it's going to benefit from the troubled nuclear plant in Japan crippled by the massive earthquake. Companies like ReneSola (NYSE:SOL), Suntech Power Holdings (NYSE:STP), SunPower Corporation (NASDAQ:SPWRA) and Power-One Inc (NASDAQ:PWER) closed up Wednesday on those assumptions.

While there will be a temporary boost in the interest in so-called alternative energy, it will never be more than a fad and at the very best, a weak supplement to real energy sources that can handle demand. Natural gas will be one of the legitimate energy sources of the future when prices rebound. That will take time.

Investors will make money in solar in the short-term, as the media will continue to hit the solar thing hard because of its darling status with it.

But anyone who believes nuclear and coal-generated electricity is going away will suffer at best if they made investment decisions based on it.

Could you imagine Japan counting on solar energy and then has some cloudy days. Sorry about the blackouts and parts shortages around the world people. When the fantasy generated by the media ends, the solar stocks will come crashing back down to earth.

Power-One Inc. closed Wednesday at $7.56, gaining $0.32, or 4.42 percent. SunPower Corporation closed at $15.29, rising $0.03, or 0.20 percent. Suntech Power Holdings ended the session at $8.95, up $0.30, or 3.47. ReneSola closed at $9.27, increasing $0.43, or 4.86 percent.

ok, you can turn on an electrical switch. But you are lightyears away from beeing an energy expert. When you don´t know what you are talking about it´s better to be quiet.

You are right that solar is not the end all solution. It is part of the overall equation to get away from fossil fuels. What do we do in 100 years from now when oil will be very hard to find? I don't think for today but for tomorrow. I think about my children and my children's children. I will not be around in 100 years nor will you but maybe some of my family will be around.

Solar power, wind energy, geothermal, tidal, and other energy sources yet to be found is the overall solution.

You know what people hate about solar power is that once it is installed it is very low maintenance. Another thing is the utility companies don't have a hand in your pocket.

You mention coal. The EPA is now investigating the way coal dust is being dispensed with. If regulation comes in the price of coal will rise. It will no longer be a cheap source of fuel.

This article would be comical if it wasn’t such a serious topic. Ultimately the viability of life on this planet depends entirely on our ability to transition swiftly to alternative energies. Any fool knows this. A future without it simply does not exist. Your really not helping matters Ray. If only you could use your communication channels for good instead of evil ☺.. but clearly, your a wanker.

I wish I were more of an " expert" on this subject to address all the writers concerns, but I am not. I will tell you, that over the last few years, within the hundred or so square miles I drive weekly I have noticed roughly a 500% annual increase in PV grids. They're everywhere! Homes, Businesses, fields, it's almost shocking. Maybe it's just my area, but if it saves a buck to do it, people will.
