Shares of Kinross Gold Corp (NYSE:KGC) were up Monday even as gold and silver prices were down slightly on the trading day.
Gold for June delivery shed $3 to close at $1,490.60 at the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. The gold price Monday traded in a range of a low of $1,486 and a high of $1,504.30.
Silver prices ended the day down 88 cents to close at $34.13 an ounce.
The U.S. dollar index fell 0.43 percent to $75.38.
The euro strengthened as Monday trading went on, putting pressure on the U.S. dollar.
Kinross Gold Corporation participates in the mining and processing of gold ores. It also is involved in the exploration and acquisition of gold bearing properties. Kinross operates in North and South America, the Russian Federation and Africa.
Kinross Gold Corp (KGC) closed at $39.16, gaining $0.75, or 1.95 percent.
