The Venetian Macau Resort and Casino, owned by Las Vegas Sands (NYSE:LVS) in Macau, had 110 hookers arrested there in a raid by authorities, according to a local newspaper. Another 22 were arrested for being part of the prostitution ring, apparently pimps and those running the illegal operation.
The prostitutes arrested apparently said they were forced to pay from $100 to $130 in "protection fees" in order to work the motel. They operated as if they were guests at the facility.
Macau has attempted to make it look as if it has very little prostitution in the country, but it has been an ongoing problem and reality for some time, and evidently not talked about or admitted publicly.
Evidently the hotel had been being watched for several days after someone contacted authorities that sex was being exchanged for money there.
Las Vegas Sands closed Friday at $45.35, down $1.39, or 2.97 percent.
