Goldman (NYSE:GS) Keeps "Sell" Rating on Intuitive Surgical (NASDAQ:ISRG)
Even though Goldman Sachs (NSYE:GS) raised their price target and EPS estimates on Intuitive Surgical (NASDAQ:ISRG), they remain negative on the company, keeping their "Sell" rating on it.
Goldman raised full year 2011-2014 EPS estimates from $9.92/$11.66/$13.42/$15.08 to $10.79/$12.68/$14.75/$16.63.
The reasoning for Goldman is the strong results for Intuitive Surgical in the fourth quarter were driven by inventory stocking, an it appears their penetration in the U.S. market is reaching peak levels, as evidenced in the 9 percent drop in initial system placements.

Intuitive Surgical (NASDAQ:ISRG) Shares Explode on Strong Guidance
Shares of Intuitive Surgical (NASDAQ:ISRG) are soaring today, as the company beat expectations and gave strong guidance for 2011.
Canaccord says, "Q4 results beat expectations on the top and bottom lines. 2011 guidance for 16-20% revenue growth is solid and could prove to be conservative. We think ISRG still has room to run in penetrating the hysterectomy market and it also has opportunities to sustain strong procedure growth for the next couple of years through mainstream adoption of emerging robotic-assisted procedures (thoracic, lung, trans-oral, etc.)...We are incrementally more positive on the name but would refrain from buying into strength. The stock is indicating to open at $315-320 and we think it is fairly valued at those levels but would be buyers on a pull back."
Canaccord reiterates a "Hold" rating on Intuitive Surgical (ISRG), which was trading at $332.44, gaining $42.61, or 14.70 percent, as of 2:34 PM EST. Canaccord has a price target of $330 on Intuitive Surgical.

Intuitive Surgical (NASDAQ:ISRG) Trading as Steep Premium to Peers
Looking ahead, Brigantine sees Intuitive Surgical (NASDAQ:ISRG) needed a strong macro-economic environment to grow, along with expanded penetration of da Vinci.
Brigantine says, "We maintain a Hold rating and think the prospect of upside to our conservative projections will hinge on an improved macro environment, along with the company’s ability to drive system upgrades and increase da Vinci’s penetration in surgical categories outside of hysterectomy and prostatectomy. We see Q4 revenues rising 6.6% to $344.4M and see EPS of $2.05 vs. the year-ago $1.95. In our view, valuation expansion will be challenging with ISRG priced at 29x our 2011 EPS estimate and 7.5x estimated 2011 revenues, sharply ahead of peers.
"...However, with the stock trading at steep premiums to peers we remain on the sidelines and calculate fair value in the $275-$300 range."
Brigantine Advisors reiterates a "Hold" rating on Intuitive Surgical (ISRG), which closed Tuesday at $296.32, gaining $8.04, or 2.79 percent.
