Shares of most gold miners were up as gold soared again Thursday, although Ventana Gold (TSE:VEN), Colossus Minerals (TSE:CSI) and Anglo American (LSE:AAL) trading mixed.
Gold for June delivery climbed $16.80 to settle at $1,472.40 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. Silver jumped $1.427, or 3.6 percent, to $41.664 an ounce.
The collapsing U.S. dollar, tightening in China, sovereign debt crisis in Europe, unrest in the Middle East, increasing inflation and consequences of the Japanese earthquake are just some of the negative catalysts affecting the price movements.
The U.S. dollar was close to session lows, resulting in a further impetus to gold. The U.S. currency traded as low as 74.617, its lowest level since December 2009.
In base metals trading, May copper dropped 1.05 cents to settle at $4.284 a pound, July platinum increased $18.40 to $1,795.60 an ounce and June palladium was up $8.95 to $774.25 an ounce.
Ventana Gold closed Thursday level in Toronto at $13.05. Colossus Minerals closed at $8.41, up $0.02, or 0.24 percent. Anglo American closed in London at 3,136.00, falling 10.50, or 0.33 percent.

Ventana Gold (TSE:VEN) Soars Over 38 Percent on Buyout Offer
The leading shareholder in Ventana Gold (TSE:VEN) made an offer to acquire the company, pushing the stock up by over 38 percent on Wednesday.
The offer from EBX values Ventana at close to $1.47 billion. EBX is owned by Brazilian billionaire Eike Batista.
EBX owns its current stake 20 percent stake in Ventana via its subsidiary 63X Master Fund. They hold almost 21 million shares of Ventana at this time.
Production estimates for the flagship project, La Bodega, based in Colombia, is 347,000 gold equivalent ounces annually at a cash cost of $322 an ounce.
Ventana closed Wednesday at $13.90, surging $3.87, or 38.58 percent.

Ventana Gold (TSE:VEN), Barrick (NYSE:ABX), US Gold (AMEX:UXG) Mixed as Gold Fluctuates
As gold prices today struggle to finish in positive territory for the seventh trading session in a row, the up and down movement in the gold price, along with it remaining somewhat level has brought mixed results to gold miners like Ventana Gold (TSE:VEN), Barrick Gold (NYSE:ABX) (TSE:ABX) and US Gold (TSE:UXG)(AMEX:UXG).
Spot gold was at $1,197.50, a gain of $1.90 at about 2:00 PM EDT.
Barrick Gold hit $42.72, gaining $0.11, or 0.26 percent, at 1:58 PM EDT. Barrick has been moving up daily along with the price of gold over the last week. Trading volume is far below the 10,795,200 3-month average, standing at 3,344,683.
The smaller gold miners haven't fared as well today, with US Gold down to $5.08, a loss of $0.01, or 0.20 percent, as of 2:01 PM EDT. Trading volume was also below 3-month averages of 1,464,270, lagging at 441,176.
Ventana was down to $8.25, falling $0.05, or 0.60 percent. Trading volume was down from the 3-month average of 779,345, to 322,620.
As you can see, gold miners are moving somewhat in tandem with gold prices today, with most companies slightly up or down on either side.
