Google (Nasdaq:GOOG) Wins Stay in Microsoft (Nasdaq:MSFT), Interior Case

Microsoft (Nasdaq:MSFT) will have to wait to deploy its Business Productivity Online Suite, as federal judge, Susan Braden, issued a preliminary injunction preventing the U.S. Department of Interior from implementing the Suite after Google (Nasdaq:GOOG) filed a lawsuit against Interior Department alleging they were locked out of the process.

This isn't the end of the case, but a protection for Google in order to allow a decision to be made before the technology is deployed. If it was, the case would probably be moot as once Microsoft was in it would be a nightmare to change the system again, even if it was allowed to be changed.

Google claimed in the lawsuit that bid requests stated the system would have to include the Microsoft product, which effectively locked them out of the bid.

A Google spokesman said, "As a proponent of open competition on the Internet and in the technology sector in general, we're pleased with the court's decision."

Google was trading at $608.37, gaining $6.25, or 1.04 percent, as of 1:42 PM EST. Microsoft was trading at $27.89, down $0.20, or 0.72 percent.
