Verizon (NYSE:VZ), AT&T (NYSE:T) Will Lead 4G, Sprint (NYSE:S) Far Behind

According to researcher IHS ISuppli, the LTE high-speed mobile standard used by Verizon (NYSE:VZ) and AT&T (NYSE:T) will become the premiere technology used in 4G wireless.

LTE, or long-term evolution, will dominate fourth-generation network technology globally by 2012, concludes ISuppli.

Sprint uses WiMax technology, which is being built out by Clearwire Corp.

Francis Sideco, an analyst at IHS ISuppli said, “With WiMax enjoying a two to three-year head start in next generation network deployments, it presently enjoys a major advantage in market share. With LTE supported by most of the leading wireless operators worldwide, it will rise to surpass WiMax.”

By 2014, ISuppli said LTE will have close to ten times the customers as WiMax will have at the time.

Looking forward, Clearwire said in the future they may switch to the LTE wireless standard.
