Toyota (TM) in Tire Monitor Recalls - 22,000 Vehicles

Toyota Motor Corp (NYSE:TM) said this weekend it has recalled close to 22,000 sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks because of tire-deflation monitoring systems that may fail, regulators said.

Tundra vehicles, Toyota Sequoia, Tacoma, FJ Cruiser and Land Cruiser, from 2008-2011 have possible tire deflation monitoring systems that fail to warn drivers, increasing the risk of a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in a report.

The vehicles with the problem left their assembly plants with monitoring systems that were working correctly, but when accessory wheels were installed, the systems were not recalibrated and now lights to warn drivers of low tire pressure could fail.

The models affected will be repaired at Toyota dealerships at no cost, Toyota Motor Sales, the automaker's U.S. sales branch, told the NHTSA.

Most of the recalls have taken place in the United States.

Toyota was trading at $89.35, dropping $1.64, or 1.80 percent, as of 12:03 PM EST.
