With 388,265,220 shares of Citigroup (NYSE:C) sold short on April 29th, 2011, it made them by far the most shorted banking stock on the NYSE.
On April 15th, 2011, there were another 381,139,607 shares sold short of Citigroup.
According to filings with the SEC, several hedge funds completely sold their stakes in Citigroup. Several others divested of large amounts of shares while keep a some of the shares.
Eton Park Capital Management LP, Viking Global Investors LP, Tudor Investment Corp., AQR Capital Management LLC and Third Point LLC were the five funds selling their entire positions in the giant bank, as it approached the deployment of a 1-for-10 reverse stock split.
Citigroup closed Monday at $41.19, down $0.34, or 0.82 percent.
