Responding to disappointment over their first entry into the tablet market, Sprint (NYSE:S) said feedback over their 3G offering has been heard and they're prepared to offer a 4G tablet in 2011.
Sprint already has a portfolio of 4G devices, something they feel will help them compete in the 4G tablet market against Verizon (NYSE:VZ) and others.
Included in their 4G product line are a 3G/4G notebook, HTC’s EVO and Samsung’s Galaxy S Epic 4G phones, a 3G/4G netbook and a few USB modems.
Teresa Kellett, Sprint’s Director of 4G said, “You will see 4G across our portfolio even more next year. We want our consumers to have more choice in 4G devices.”
Sprint’s President of Business Markets, Paget Alves, said the growing branding and marketing of the term 4G will probably bring it to commodity status. “Throwing around that term will make it less meaningful,” said Alves. “Then it will be more about delivering what people expect from a ‘4G’ experience.”
As far as who will be manufacturing the 4G tablet for 2011, the decision hasn't been made yet.
Sprint was tradng at $4.14, up $0.03, or 0.61 percent, as of 2:30 PM EST.
