Hedge U.S. Dollar with (C), (GM), (ADM)
With the endless printing of money by the Federal Reserve, the U.S. dollar continues to fall in value, and investors do need to protect themselves against that, with some suggesting blue chip stocks like Citigroup (NYSE:C), General Motors (NYSE:GM) and Archer Daniels Midland (NYSE:AMD) maybe being good hedges against the plunge of the greenback.
In times of crisis, such as is occurring in the Middle East and North Africa, the dollar has tended to strengthen (gold and silver are much better ) as investors take a "flight to quality." This time around, the dollar has failed to rally. The dollar is slowly losing its safe-haven status, and speculation has begun to build that a wide number of international transactions that have historically been conducted in dollars may soon be conducted in local currencies. That means the euro, the Chinese yuan, the yen and other currencies will increasingly be used to settle trades. And as fewer dollars are required to settle trades, demand for the greenback will drop yet further.
For U.S. companies, a weaker dollar is largely positive. Exports become more attractively priced abroad in local currency terms, while foreign importers are less able to beat their U.S. rivals on price in the United States.
General Motors and Archer Daniels Midland exports and the move by Citigroup to invest in emerging markets are the impetus behind the reason for suggesting the three stocks as potential hedges.
Archer Daniels Midland closed at $36.74, falling $0.21, or 0.57 percent. General Motors closed at $31.70, down $0.69, or 2.13 percent. Citigroup closed at $4.52, down $0.02, or 0.44 percent.

Analysts Upbeat on Syngenta (SYT), Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), CF Industries (CF), Potash (POT), Deere (DE)
Potash (NYSE:POT), Syngenta (NYSE:SYT), Archer Daniels Midland (NYE:ADM), CF Industries Holdings (NYSE:CF) and Deere & Company (NYSE:DE) are five agriculture stocks with potential upside of 8%-21%. Being analysts' favorites, these stocks have no sell ratings.
The agriculture industry is the talk of the street since a few months now, as global food demand has elevated to historic highs. The beneficiaries of this trend include the farming industry, equipment suppliers, fertilizer and pesticide companies and other service providers.
Moreover, weather-related production shocks in major food exporting countries have triggered this crisis. On the demand side, rising income levels and a growing middle-class in emerging markets like China and India are pushing food demand further.
With the world facing tight supply conditions for milling-quality wheat, as Australian wheat production has downgraded and European supply is offline, the U.S. is now the best source for milling-quality wheat to meet increasing demand from North America and the Middle East. To benefit ethanol producers, the U.S. government has extended its 45 cents per gallon tax credit by a year.

Archer Daniels Midland (NYSE:ADM) Getting Strong Revenue Tailwind from Corn/Soybeans
Archer Daniels Midland (NYSE:ADM) should continue to accelerate on the pricing tailwinds they received from corn and soybean prices in 2010.
Jefferies noted, "A lot of margin pushes and pulls, but a 30%+ Y/Y increase in corn/soybean prices should provide significant revenue tailwind and that ADM was well positioned in key commodities and our expectation for a big jump in Ag Services EBIT, and we think ADM could top the $0.80 Street estimate."
They raised their full year 2011 and full year 2012 estimates on ADM from $2.88 and $3.21 to $2.98 and $3.26.
Jefferies maintains their "Hold" rating on Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), which closed Thursday at $33.43, up $0.01, or 0.03 percent. Jefferies raised their price target on ADM from $34 to $36.

Archer Daniels Midland (NYSE:ADM), Bunge Ltd (NYSE:BG), Cargill Land Deal with Chinese Importers
With the backdrop of a huge and surprising deal by China to acquire soybeans from American farmers, valued at $6.7 billion, companies like Archer Daniels Midland (NYSE:ADM), Bunge Ltd (NYSE:BG) and Cargill signed deals with major Chinese importers, including COFCO and Sinograin.
The deal for soybeans by China was the largest it has ever entered in as a one-off deal.
Dealers responded saying they thought there would be a symbolic purchase of soybeans, but not a legitimate, major deal like the one entered into.
It is believed the Chinese made it over concerns soybean prices could rise significantly throughout 2011, so they locked in prices now.
The overall deal represents 11.5 million tons of soybeans to be delivered in 2011 incrementally. The overall total is enough to meet the import demand of the Chinese for up to three months.
Soybeans acquired by China will be for delivery in the 2011/12 (September-to-August) marketing year.
Prices for soybeans have reached a 30-month high in January on Chinese demand and production concerns in South America.

Archer Daniels Midland (NYSE:ADM) Lacks Short-term Catalysts
Archer Daniels Midland (NYSE:ADM) should remain somewhat benign going forward, as there are few, if any, short-term catalysts to indicate an upward move of significance.
Jefferies (NYSE:JEF) said, "We expect ADM's system processing volume growth to decelerate over the next two quarters as the company laps record U.S. soybean processing volumes and HFCS exports to Mexico, and in calendar 2H11 as ADM laps the addition of two new ethanol plants in summer 2010."
Jefferies initiated coverage on Archer Daniels Midland, starting them off with a "Hold" rating. ADM was trading at $30.38, up $0.16, or 0.53 percent, as of 1:52 PM EST. Jefferies has a price target on them of $34.
EPS estimates for full year 2011 and full year 2012 are $2.87/$65.9 billion and $3.20/$67.4 billion.
